TREATMENT PROGRAM
MOTOR LEARNING PROGRAM:
Student is asked to pick up rattan rings from the right side and place it on the saucer on the left side of the table. This activity is called BLOCKED PRACTISE (REPEATED PERFORMANCE) and it usually involved fine and gross motor skills, grasp & release as well as eye hand coordination.
FINE MOTOR SKILLS:
This student is given a bundle of bolt and nut. He will sorted out that bolt and nut on the different side. After that he will start to do screwing, which involved the fine motor skills and bilateral hand coordination.
SENSORY STIMULATION:
Usually this treatment is carried out for those students who have central nervous system dysfunction. During this session, therapist will use either brush, cotton, rubber ball, or sponge as a method to stimulate the exteroceptors of skin. Movement of the stimulated part showing that student is respond to the stimuli.
ACTIVITY OF DAILY LIVING (ADL) TRAINING:
ADL is one of the most important tasks in Occupational therapy. Before the student can go for further activity, they are encourage to practice ADL activity such as wearing shoes, feeding, brushing teeth, grooming and so on. Areas that will be considered while doing ADL task include ROM, coordination, sensation, balance, environment, cognition as well as perceptual functions.
PRE VOCATIONAL SKILLS:
This program is planned for student who is qualified physically and mentally. The purpose of this program is to make sure student is exposed and initiating skill practice before they experience the real vocational and workshop environment. Type of activity given is based on individual capability and ability such as cutting, folding, pasting, typing, packing and so on.
ROUTINE ACTIVITIES
Early intervention programme
- basic stimulation, parent education
Passive and active ROM(range of motions) and stretching activities
- to maintain ‘range of motions’ and prevent ‘deformity’.
Sensory integration
- exploration of different sensory stimulus through therapeutic medium.
Cognitive perceptual social and emotion
- activities to improve eye-contact and concentration
- activities to improve problem solving skills, decision making and judgment
- play therapy
Hand function
- activities given to facilitate reach, grasp, carry and release.
- activities to improve prehension and non-prehension skills
- activities to improve grip and pinch strength
Co-ordination
- eye-hand co-ordination activities
- activities to improve unilateral and bilateral gross and fine motor co-ordination
A.D.L. skills
- to train in self care skills – feeding position, techniques, dressing, undressing, groaning, toiletting, bathing, transfer techniques.
- assistive and adapties devices, suggestion for splints.
